This is a small sampling of the club’s activities. The club tries to provide a variety of rides from very social and gentle to training-grade. You don’t have to be a SCCC member to join us on an event.  However, if you join, you’ll get 10 issues of our full-sized newsletter packed with information on all club rides, club picnics and dinners and informative columns. Remember, you will need to ride with a helmet to join us.

Emmaus Inc. Cycle for Shelter
Fund Raising Bike Ride - Sunday, July 27, 2008   3 great rides 1 great cause. Rain or shine

On Sunday, July 27, 2008, Cyclists can choose from three exciting routes of 26, 62 (100K) or 100 miles, winding along the Merrimack River through historic Rocks Village and along the scenic New Hampshire seacoast. In 2003 Cycle For shelter was listed in the country's premiere cycling magazine "Bicycling" as one of its readers favorite rides. A minimum fundraising level of $125.00 is set in addition to the registration fee.

Empire State Challenge
· East Hampton, NY on Saturday, July 26th. It is called the Empire State Challenge and will have a metric century and a 35 mile option for the ride.
 · Proceeds benefit the Wounded Warrior Project
and the ride is being held in honor of Marine Lance Corporal Jordan Haerter of Sag Harbor who was killed in action in Ramadi, Iraq last April 22.

Tour of the Litchfield Hills

· The fifth annual Tour of the Litchfield Hills will be held on Sunday, August 3rd. The Tour benefits the Center for Cancer Care Fund, Inc.
· There are rides of 12 miles, 30 miles, 50 miles, 75 miles and - new this year - 100 miles. All of the rides are on the scenic, though hilly, roads of Litchfield County. There are also walking routes of 1.2 miles, 4 miles and 8 miles.
· All routes start and end at Coe Park, Rtt. 202, Torrington, Ct.
· Numerous rest stops provide water and fruit. Sag wagons patrol all the routes. The $35 registration fee includes a t-shirt and a free picnic at the end.
· All participants are urged to raise funds to benefits the Center for Cancer Care Fund.

Bike New Haven Festival
· Cycling Celebration puts Ferris wheel on top of East Rock Park. On July 19th from 10am to 5pm at East Rock Park, the City of New Haven, Elm City Cycling and the Devil's Gear Bike shop will be programming a full day of activities to promote cycling in the City of New Haven.
· A United States Cycling Federation sanctioned race will be held from 10am to noon beginning at Orange Street and Farnam Drive presented by The Devil's Gear Bike Shop and the New Haven Cycling Club. The race will be an individual hill-climb time trial, where cyclists begin at the base of East Rock and ride "against the clock" to the top. Riders of all abilities will be able to enter by registering in advance at www.bikereg.com.
· A Ferris wheel and carousel will begin turning at
12pm on the top of the rock rewarding people who have made the climb to the top with a free ride and a bird's-eye view of the area. Residents are encouraged to walk or ride to the summit, which will feature free bicycle valet parking. Other attractions at the summit will include live music, food vendors, and a rock climbing wall.
· The route to the summit will be have rest-stops featuring water and musicians to keep the riders spirits high all the way to the top. The base of the summit, adjacent to North Meadow will feature kite-flying, guided mountain bike rides, street performers, food vendors and information about CT Transit's "Bikes-on-Board" program. Neighborhood groups will be organizing group rides throughout the city to East Rock Park. Yale University transit will be providing a shuttle to the top for families with small children or those unable to walk or ride to the summit.
